Efteling — Summer 2024 Review

Efteling feels different from the moment you walk in. It is not trying to overwhelm you with scale or intensity the way a lot of major parks do. Instead, it pulls you into a story, and that tone carries through the entire day.

What stood out most for us was how well it balanced thrill and accessibility. My husband is not a big thrill seeker. At most parks, especially places like Disney, he tends to sit out a decent number of rides or just tolerate them. Efteling flipped that completely.

He was able to ride the major attractions, actually enjoy them, and come off rides wanting to go again. Coasters like Baron 1898 and Python bring real excitement, but they are not relentless. There is a smoothness and pacing that makes them feel approachable without losing the fun. It never feels like the park is trying to push you past your comfort zone.

Where Efteling really separates itself is in its dark rides and storytelling. Attractions like Droomvlucht are not about thrills at all. They are immersive, calm, and visually creative in a way that feels almost old world. Instead of screens everywhere, you get practical effects, detailed sets, and a sense that someone actually crafted each scene.

Compared to Disney, the biggest surprise was how much more relaxed the day felt. Lines were manageable, the layout was easy to navigate, and there was far less of that constant pressure to rush from reservation to reservation. You can actually slow down, explore, and let the park unfold naturally.

The Fairytale Forest in particular captures that feeling. It is not a ride, just a walk through classic stories brought to life, but it ends up being one of the most memorable parts of the visit. It leans into simplicity in a way that works.

Food and seating also felt easier. Instead of fighting for space or feeling rushed, we were able to sit, eat, and reset without it turning into a logistical challenge. That alone made the experience feel more enjoyable than a typical theme park day.

By the end, the biggest takeaway was unexpected. My husband, who usually approaches parks cautiously, had more fun here than he has had at Disney. He rode more, relaxed more, and actually

looked forward to what was next instead of bracing for it.

Overall Efteling is one of the most well balanced parks we have visited. It delivers thrills without intimidation, storytelling without excess, and a pace that lets you enjoy the experience instead of managing it. For anyone traveling with a mixed group, especially those who are not hardcore thrill seekers, it might be one of the best theme park experiences out there.
